Home Made Acne Treatment – (My Secret Recipe!)

magic potion

Millions of us out there suffer from acne prone skin, myself included and have suffered for nearly 10 years now.  I am constantly on the look out for new remedies, different ointments, lotions and treatments to help me maintain my difficult skin.

I prefer to use home remedies, or products that are as natural and organic as possible whenever I can.  I may have young looking skin now, but soaking my skin up with strong chemicals day in day out will only damage my skin in the long run which will age my skin faster than it should, and I certainly don’t want that!  For years I have used medication prescribed to me by my doctor, but had been made aware through internet research that this could possibly damage my skin and cause early ageing.  I have completely stopped using prescribed medication and now treat and maintain my acne with my own selection of cleansers, toners, moisturisers and topical treatments.

So, I have for a while been researching Camphor Oil which is extracted from the bark of the Camphor Tree which is then vacuumed and filter pressed.  Camphor can be used to treat many ailments such as muscular aches and pains, arthritis, sprains, coughs, cold, even depression and of course acne.

It is strongly recommended that camphor is not applied directly to the skin due to the potency of it.  This oil should always be diluted before application.  This brings me onto my secret home made potion especially for acne prone skin.

Here is my secret recipe:

I mix:

1 part Camphor Oil
1 part Hydrogen Peroxide
1 part Rose Water

I mixed all three ingredients into a small bottle, which you will find easy to use when applying this lotion to your skin.

How I use it:
I don’t use this lotion every day as my acne is not so bad anymore, and if I can avoid applying unnecessary products to my skin, I will do so.  I like to apply this every other day, or every 3 days.  If I am going through a phase where I am having a break out, I will use this on a daily basis until I have got the break out under control.

I recommend using this lotion as a night treatment due to the strong smell that unfortunately accompanies this oil.  Once I have cleansed my face at night, I soak a round cotton pad with my acne lotion and dab, not rub this into my problem areas, mainly my cheeks, forehead and along my jaw line.  I slowly dab this onto my skin, ensuring all problem areas have been treated. I then leave my skin for a few minutes, allowing the lotion to soak in and dry.  Once I am happy the lotion has soaked in, I go ahead and apply my night moisturiser or facial oil.

I have been using this lotion for a while now and really feel like it has improved the condition of my acne, keeping it under control and I certainly am not breaking out as much as I used to.

Please note: Camphor oil is very toxic, and can cause severe side effects if ingested.  Only ever use this product in dilution with other oils or lotions.

Let me know if you give this a go, or if you use Camphor Oil in other ways and do let me know if you have any secret acne solutions you like to use to treat your skin.

Dr Nick Lowe Sebum Control Cleanser

I am always searching for the perfect face cleanser and I think I have found the one..finally! It’s like finding the perfect man, nearly impossible ; )

As I am the kind of girl who does wear makeup every day, as much as I like to wear it, I also cannot wait to take it off when I get home from work.  There is nothing like the feeling of freshly cleansed skin after a hard day at work and this cleanser certainly gives you that feeling.

dr nick lowe

Dr Nick Lowe Sebum Control Cleanser is dermatologically tested and alcohol free.  It allows you to deeply cleanse your pores without stripping your skin of vital moisture.  This is key, especially with sensitive and acne prone skin, just like mine.

Dr Nick Lowe has a range of amazing skin care products which have been tested over 30 years to treat many skin issues.  One being acne, blemish prone skin which is what this cleanser is specifically made for.

There are a lot of cleansers out there made specifically for acne prone skin, but I find them too drying and too harsh which defeats the purpose of using a specialist skin care product.  After researching Dr Nick Lowe’s products, I was extremely excited but at the same time a little dubious, given I have tried so many skin care products I just haven’t been happy with.  But, for the first time ever, I absolutely love cleansing my skin and removing my makeup.  It completely removes all traces of makeup which I have found difficult with other products.  My skin feels so clean, fresh, smooth and not dry at all.  I cannot explain how amazing this cleanser is and how perfect my skin feels after.

There have been times when I have used cleansers before using this cleanser and my skin just hasn’t felt 100% clean but, with Dr Nick Lowe’s Sebum Control Cleanser, I honestly can say it does.  I have also noticed my break outs have significantly reduced since using this product.  Happy days!

Have you tried the Dr Nick Lowe Sebum Control Cleanser and what do you think of it? Or are there any other acne prone skin care products you cannot live without? I’ll see you soon. X.O

Aztec Secret – Indian Healing Clay.. Healing Skin Naturally

This is a natural skincare product I cannot get enough of and probably rave about the most to anyone that will listen.  I have managed to convert all my family and friends into using this product.  It’s 100% natural and ridiculously cheap.  What is it I hear you ask? Aztec Secret – Indian Healing Facial Clay (claimed to be the most powerful facial in the world) has done wonders for my forever blemished skin, well not so blemished anymore and it’s thanks to this facial.

Aztec Secret – Indian Healing Facial Clay is a deep pore cleansing facial mask and is made up of 100% Natural Calcium Bentonite Clay, nothing else! This facial is somewhat interesting as firstly, it comes in a very fine powdery substance which needs to be mixed with Organic Apple Cider Vinegar.  What a combination right?  I know, I get that reaction from anyone I talk to about this, but when they try it, they totally understand my obsession!

So I mix say a teaspoon of the powder with a couple of teaspoons of the Organic Apple Cider Vinegar to make a smooth creamy consistency.  I then pack this onto my face with an old foundation brush (just to keep the mess down to a minimum, plus I feel more pampered using this technique), not being shy with the amount as the more the better! Now, here is the fun part..within a minute or two, your skin with start to feel warm followed by a pulsating feeling.. don’t freak out, it’s supposed to happen and it’s a nice feeling in a weird way as you actually feel like all the rubbish clogging up your pores being sucked right out.  Sounds gross right? But it’s a relaxing feeling, trust me.  I just lay back and let the mask do it’s job.  The packaging mentions to keep it on for about 5-10 minutes, but I like to keep it on for about 30 minutes and do this once a week.  The bad thing about this product is it can be a little tricky to wash off, it can get a little messy but I think it’s worth it.  My skin looks red for about half an hour or so, which is normal and down to the pulsating, so I always make sure I do this on a day when I won’t be leaving the house.

The results…smooth, clear, radiant and supple skin! It really does clear out your pores and you can actually see the difference! It’s magical.. ok, I am being a little dramatic but to me, anything that can improve my acne prone skin is magic! : ) Pores are definitely visibly smaller, that is for sure.  Your skin will feel a little dry after so I make sure I use a good moisturiser or oil straight after.  If you notice any flaking, that’s ok, it’s just dead skin, you don’t want that hanging around any way ; )

So, what can I say, I absolutely love this product, you can pick it up online for I think about £10 approximately and a bottle of the Organic Apple Cider Vinegar is very cheap too! Who needs expensive, facials at the salon when you can achieve this in your very own home.  Let me know if you have used this mask before or whether you plan on trying it out.  Would love to hear from you.  I’ll see you soon. X.O.

Lemons – and why I can’t live without them

Lemon

Lemons? And why can’t I live without them?  So I have been obsessed with lemons for the past year and here are two reasons why.

1. I squeeze half a lemon into a tall glass of warm water every morning. I drink this slowly at my desk whilst checking emails.  I have noticed that I feel refreshed, cleansed and somehow I really do feel like it is detoxing my system.  One thing is for sure, it makes me visit the ladies more often but that is a good thing as it means it really is flushing out all the toxins and my insides feel all nice and sparkly again : )   It has also improved the condition of my skin.. I suffer from acne, and I feel drinking lemon water every morning has helped clear up my complexion.

2.  I rub half a lemon into my skin at night before I go to bed. Or I squeeze the juice into a round cotton pad and dab it onto problem areas where I may have scars. I am carful not to dab onto open wounds as it can sting, but sometimes I just go ahead and do it anyway as I feel like it really does cleanse my skin, I can take the pain ; ) The lemon juice help kill bacteria and is also a natural lightening agent, therefore really helps with lightening my acne scars.

Let me know if you can’t live without lemons just like me, what you use them for and is there anything else I can use them for beauty/health wise? Thanks for reading.. I’ll see you soon. X.O.
